After its stunning premiere last year as the CMH Emerging Young Ensemble for 24/25, Leonkoro Quartet is back!! First, the quartet tackles a late work by Haydn often considered one of the greatest quartets of the Classical Era, contrasting lyrical introspection and energetic humor. Written at the 250th anniversary of Henry Purcell’s death, we hear one of Britten’s more important chamber works (he was facinated by Purcell) which combines modern harmonic language with historical forms. The concert concludes with Schubert’s Rosamunde, full of extraordinary lyrical beauty and a subtle interplay between melancholy and serenity. It was composed when Schubert was struggling with illness — a testament of his indomitable creative energy and remarkable courage in the face of adversity.
