Debuting with CMH as a duo, pianists Roman Rabinovich and Orson Weiss spotlight three monumental works by Rachmaninoff. Inspired by poetry and decidated to Tchaikovsky, the first Suite is richly harmonic, sonorous, and lyrical. The second Suite is considered much more virtuosic, emphasizing brilliant writing for the piano over programmatic imagery. The evening concludes with Symphonic Dances, his final completed composition, a combination of Russian nostalgia with modern orchestral colors.
