  • ABOUT THE CONCERT

We recently learned that our previously scheduled ensemble, the Pavel Haas Quartet, will not be able to make their U.S. tour due to a serious health issue with their cellist, Mr. Peter Jarusek.  They wish to express their regret as they "love performing in Houston and were looking forward to playing for Houston again."  While we wish the ensemble our very best and hope to have them here in a future season, it has been necessary to find another group of their caliber to perform for us on Thursday, October 26, 2017.  We have been extremely fortunate in securing The Shanghai Quartet for this concert season performance in two weeks!  This legendary ensemble is celebrating its 34th year, having appeared on our stage in 1989, 1999 and 2009.  Renowned for its passionate musicality, impressive technique and multicultural innovations, the Shanghai Quartet has become one of the world's foremost chamber ensembles.

The Shanghai Quartet will be performing this breathtaking program for you on October 26th:

Mendelssohn, Quartet No. 1 in E Major, Op.12

Bridge, Quartet No. 1 in E minor,  "Bologna"

Brahms, Quartet in C minor, Op. 51, No. 1

    ARTISTS:

    • Weigang Li, violin
    • Yi-Wen Jiang, violin
    • Honggang Li, viola
    • Nicholas Tzavaras, cello
